Projection for College Graduates in 2015

Members of the class of 2014 entered the workforce with a strong employment outlook. In a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, companies said they planned to hire 8.6 percent more graduates than in 2013.

Thankfully for the class of 2015, it seems this trend is still on the rise. The survey revealed that roughly 43 percent of companies planned to hire more 2015 graduates during their fall 2014 recruiting sessions than they did during the same time last year.

Top 5 Jobs for New Grads

The site, CareerProfiles, ranks the following five jobs as currently having the highest employment outlook, making them a great goal for new grads to work towards:

  • Marketing Managers: Students with an advertising or journalism degree can enter this field, with an average salary of $98,720 per year.
  • Financial Managers: Graduates with a finance degree can work towards this prestigious job, positioning themselves for an average annual salary of $90,970.
  • Computer Systems Software Engineers: New grads with a computer information science degree (CIS), can grow their careers in this area, offering an average salary of $85,370 per year.
  • Chemical Engineers: Those with an engineering degree may want to consider becoming a chemical engineer, as it offers steady growth potential and an average annual salary of $78,860.
  • Electrical Engineers: Another promising engineering career path is electrical engineering, with more than 10,000 new jobs predicted through 2020 and an average salary of $75,930 per year.

Top Cities for New Grads

While the best cities for the class of 2015 to live have yet to be revealed, there’s a good chance new grads will find luck in many of the same areas that were good to 2014 grads. In June, MarketWatch released a list of the best cities for new grads, including:

  • Atlanta
  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • Louis
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul
