Watch for These 3 Signs of Employee Burnout

Everyone has off days now and then, but if your team has been in a funk for a while, something is up. Previously happy, engaged employees don’t just lose interest in their work for no reason.

Burnout  especially en masse — is a problem with your company. It’s important to step in and get to the root of the problem as soon as you start to notice telling signs. These three issues are a clear indicator your team is feeling burned out.

Decreased Quality of Work

When employees are no longer passionate about their jobs, it shows in the quality of their work. People who once went the extra mile to make a great impression may begin submitting assignments that are mediocre at best  i.e., laden with spelling and grammar errors, lacking proper research and otherwise absent of anything that makes it stand out.

Your company is only as strong as the employees powering it, so if they stop taking pride in their work, your reputation will take a hit.

Increased Absenteeism

Employees who lose interest in their jobs typically don’t want to come to work. If your team has been taking more sick days than ever  despite appearing perfectly healthy before and after these alleged illnesses  burnout is likely the cause. Avoiding the office can be their way of trying to rest up and get excited for work again, steering clear of colleagues they’re not getting along with, or delaying working on projects they’re not excited about.

Decreased Productivity

Unenthused employees aren’t exactly known for having high levels of efficiency. When your previously energetic team starts having trouble meeting production goals for no clear reason, this is telling. Low levels of output can cause you to miss key deadlines. It’s important to nip this in the bud as soon as possible, before it has a major impact on your bottom line.
