Summer is just around the corner! After the winter we’ve just had, most people couldn’t be more excited that the warmest season of the year is approaching. However, many employers aren’t quite as thrilled about the rising temperatures, as this time of year often sees a major slump in employee motivation.
If you’ve noticed a drop in productivity during the summer months, you’re not alone. Captivate Network conducted a survey finding that not only does productivity go down by 20 percent during the summertime, attendance drops by 19 percent, and project turnaround times increase by 13 percent.
Thankfully, there’s a number of things you can do to keep your employees enthused all summer long.
3 Tips to Keep Your Staff Motivated this Summer
Does your staff traditionally lack enthusiasm to be at work from June through August? Use the following three tips to make the lazy days of summer a thing of the past at your company:
- Regulate the Thermostat: It’s difficult for people to focus on work when they’re too hot or too cold. Closely monitor the thermostat during the summer months to make sure it’s kept at a comfortable temperature.
- Introduce “Summer Hours”: If possible, let employees work flexible hours during the summer months, so they’re able to get outside and enjoy the warm, beautiful weather. It’s much easier for people to concentrate on work when they know they’ll have time to bask in the sunshine when they leave the office.
- Allow Flexible Working Arrangements: Instead of trying to foster productivity in a cubicle or a conference room, let your staff work where they feel most inspired. Hold meetings outside and allow people to bring their laptops outdoors to work, so they’re happier and more content.
Productivity can certainly happen during the summer months, it just takes a little creative thinking to find ways to inspire your staff to want to keep working hard when the sun is shining brightly outside.
