The health and well-being of your employees is imperative to the future success of your company. If long hours on the job, difficult projects or tension with colleagues is causing your team members to near their breaking points, it’s time to take action.
As a manager, it’s your job to look out for the best interests of your employees. If you notice that someone seems to be struggling, it’s important to take action immediately.
4 Ways to Help Your Team Decompress
Whether you have one employee nearing their breaking point or an entire team, implement the following four ideas to help calm them down:
Listen to Their Concerns
Sometimes talking it out is enough to make a person feel a lot better. Sit back and listen to a super stressed employee explain why they’re so upset. Ask what you can do to make the situation better and make good on your promise to help. It means a lot to people when they know their boss truly cares about them.
Encourage Them to Take Time Off
When a person is at their breaking point, it’s often a good idea to have them step away from their jobs for a bit to relax. No one can function at full capacity when they’re buried in stress. A little time away from the office can put things in prospective, so they’re able to return to work in a much better state of mind.
If most of your team seems to be reaching their limits, take a time out from work and have a little fun together. Plan a group lunch, happy hour or any other social engagement that gets people away from the office so they can stop thinking about work for awhile and enjoy each other’s company.
Implement Stress Relieving Initiatives
Help your employees relieve on-the-job stress by encouraging them to live a healthier lifestyle. Failing to exercise and follow a healthy diet can inadvertently make stress levels soar. Combat this by holding yoga classes at your office a few times per week or offering free passes to a local gym. Stock your kitchen with free healthy snacks that employees can enjoy when they’re working late or too busy to get out for lunch.
