Winter has officially arrived! This is certainly the coziest time of the year, but after awhile the cold temperatures and dreary skies tend to give many people a strong case of the winter blues. If you’ve noticed a decrease in energy around your office, there’s a good chance your staff is ready for spring.
While you can’t control the weather, you can work to boost morale during the winter season, helping your team keep their spirits up throughout the coldest months of the year.
5 Ways to Boost Morale During the Winter Season
Are your employees already tired of winter? Keep them going strong right through the winter weather by following these five tips:
Offer Flexible Working Arrangements
When the roads are slick and the temperatures are freezing, no one wants to leave the comforts of their home to come into the office. Allow your employees to work from home on days it’s just too nasty to go outside.
Promote Summer in the Office
It may be snowing outside, but that doesn’t mean it has to be wintertime inside your office! Redecorate by putting a (fake) palm tree in the break room, placing green plants on employees’ desks and keeping the thermostat at a comfortable temperature ─ no one should have to wear their coat indoors.
Say “Thank You”
Getting to work during the wintertime can be much more challenging than other times of the year. People have to brush snow off their cars, shovel their driveways and wait for public transportation outside in freezing temperatures. Let your team know you appreciate their efforts by simply saying “thank you.”
Provide Continuing Education Opportunities
If you have room in your budget, send as many people as possible to a conference or training session in a warm location. There’s nothing like actual sunshine and warm temperatures to boost morale.
Have a Party
Make winter a bit more fun by having a party! There are countless ideas to make this work on budgets of any size. If you don’t have much money to work with, throw a pizza party at your office. Sometimes a little extra effort goes a long way!
